Here are a couple of pieces I did up recently. I’m working on a shorter (narrower) version of the chest for my wife. Don’t know if I’ll build Gary Rogowski’s bed but maybe.

Very Nice, as always Dave!!! I really like the way the bed in the background is out of focus and the way you've spent the extra time to make the covers look so real. You're a true artist my friend!!! I made that blanket chest a few years back, I changed the legs and the top a bit but essentially it's the same (see attached crappy photo). I'm also attaching a render of the bookcase I'm working on right now, don't know if you've seen this one or not yet. Check out the Frank Lloyd lights I made. They turned out pretty cool. If you get a chance I'd love to see a render of the bed too, it's too nice to be out of focus!!! Cheers Dave.

Thank you Russ,
Both of those pieces look great. I'll be interested to see the real version of the cabinet.
I wish I had time to actually work in my shop and build some stuff. I took on more drawing work though over the weekend so not a lot of shop time available. Someone needs to invent a machine that operates like a printer and makes all the pieces from the drawing. Of course that would take all the fun out of working with wood.
I do like that bed. I was kind of amazed when I opened the FWW site to start this thread that the bed is on the front page. I'll try to get a rendering of it completed soon. In the meantime I'm attaching a view of it sans bedding.View Image
Here's a new version of the drawing. Improved the smoothness in the background by increasing the lens samples to 10.

There are CNC machines that do that. Feed in a a 3D model and some raw material, and out pops the finished piece.

Hey Dave,I'll e-mail you a photo of the cabinet when it's all done, you won't have to wait long, I have to have it done for the first of April when it's being photographed for my latest article. By the way, you may be interested to know that a certain someones work will be gracing the front cover of a certain magazine in the next issue ; )
I just saw your latest D.C.B posting, that's amazing that your able to pull that off!!! I always thought that there were certain things that would be undrawable in sketchup, I guess that proves that isn't the case. Well done. How long did it take you to figure out how to draw that leg???
I've seen a machine that builds stuff that you draw, it was on some show called Star Trek or something like that, amazing what they can do now days isn't it!!!
Did you make those lamps in the background too? They look really good.
Anyways, cheers for now Dave.Russ.

Hi Russ, well, I wonder who that certain someone is. Hmmm....
Congratulations.
I look forward to seeing all this promised stuff.
As far as the leg drawing, it has been in my mind for awhile. I actually thought about drawing that leg a few months ago but was distracted with other stuff and didn't get to it. I suppose it has been brewing for awhile.
I'm helping a gentleman who has virtually no woodworking experience and no boatbuilding experience of any sort get set up to build a 16' 10" double ender. That got me thinking more about the next boat I want to build and one thing led to another and well, I had a table leg drawn. It turns out that the method I used is very much like the way you would build a traditional wooden boat. with moulds and frames at specified intervals defining the shape. I've drawn several boats in SketchUp before but hadn't made the leap to other compound shapes until the other day.
The first time I drew the leg I did it in almost no time. It was very fast. The second time took much longer because I was thinking about what screen grabs I needed to make. I want to do more video demos because I think there's a lot of benefit in seeing the movement of things. Unfortunately I can't seem to have a quiet time to work lately. It's kind of hard to ignore my son, not that I want to of course.
The lamps were a 3DWH find but I had to do some fixing of the model as well as make them a reasonable size. I redid the materials and made a sort of mica material for the shades although that doesn't show.
TTFN
Dave
