Does anyone have experience with the CMT/Sommerfeld offset tongue & groove router bit set and cabinetmaking technique?
My wife has sentenced me to a lot of casework (“that’s why you said we needed to buy all those tools, isn’t it?”). I’ve had good luck with the CMT/Sommerfeld raised panel door set, so I’d like to see what people think of the tongue/groove system for the cabinets.

Hey Tom sorry I don't have any first hand info for you but I did just recieve the set in the mail but have not had time to do anything with it yet. I will view the video tonight and give you more info
Hey Tom I just watched the very long Sommerfeld tape that came with the tool set and it looked very interesting, Mark uses a combination of tonges and groves with pocket hole screws. I have not used it yet but am not in the least bit sorry I bought it. There are many other uses I have already thought of and I am sure any woodworker can handle this. I have bought many items from CMT and have never been disapointed
The boxed set of three pieces is not necessary if you have a flush trim bit already but I bought one a couple of weeks ago. We have tried it in the shop and the results are very good. Very simple to set up. Good quality bits. Makes casework very fast and simple. We will probably use it alot on our less expensive units. Some of our customers are paying for and expect M&T construction and we will ablidge them. This is a very good system overall.

I purchased the Sommerfeld set after watching a demo at The Woodworking Show in Balto. last weekend. I watched the DVD last night and was impressed. It's very straightforward and it seems like a lot of thought went into anticipating and answering questions that might come up. The system seems to make very solid cabinets and the t&g techniques look like they will be particularly helpful if one is assembling the cabinets by yourself. I haven't used it yet and I'm sure something will arise that I will wish was addressed, but all in all it really made me want to get started on my new cabinets. Frankly, I think Sommerfeld should include the DVD with their catalog like AOL sends out disks. During the course of the DVD he uses a number of other jigs and devices that they sell (they are not essential) and it had me reaching for the catalog and trying to figure if I could justify purchasing some of them.
