lately i’ve read about many problems with some sorby chisels (octagonal handled) being improperly heat-treated, thus leading to soft steel which won’t hold an edge. i’m a “flat-worker” who is a newbie to turning, and i have a few sorby turning tools, which i rather like, as was about to purchase some more. has anyone had problems with the sorby turning tools?
many thanks,
bert

Sorby turning tools are made of HSS and my experience over many years has been that they are as good as Crown,Hamlet,Henry
Taylor etc.I like the Crown PM tools but don't think they are worth the extra.(PM is a different alloy)
I use them almost exclusively and have not had a problem.
