Lie-Nielsen used to carry a German-made quick-release shoulder vise. Does anyone know the source of that vise? Also, any ideas why FWW didn’t include it in the review they had last issue? (Presumably the German company is still around.)
Thanks.

The vise was part of the review, but when Lie-Nielsen stopped selling it before the review came out we pulled it from the review.

I am looking for vices for a new workbench. I looked at the Lie Nelson page to only to find they do not sell them anymore either. I contacted Lie Nelson and they told me they are coming out with there own line of vise hardware with some needed improvements over the old German ones. I just checked the Lie Nelson page and there new vices are now available.
Yep - I've been in touch with L-N as well. The new vises they just started shipping are not quick release, which is a requirement for me. I got an email from them recently saying they're still perfecting the QR version, but I've been hanging on since Feb/ March."Honey, will you please make some sawdust and track it across the carpet?"
"Yes, dear..."
Did they indicate which vises are going to be quick release? A quick release twin screw would be sweet, but, I bet it would be hard to build.
yes, it's the twin screw. Not sure what the mechanism will be. Stay tuned, I guess..."Honey, will you please make some sawdust and track it across the carpet?"
"Yes, dear..."
A quick release twin screw is worth waiting for. It would probably even give the Veritas some competition
