I live in north central Ohio and I am trying to locate a source of Lumber core 3/4″ birch or maple plywood with veeneer on both sides being birch or maple. Called 33 different places today and located one that has aspen on one face and pine on the other. This was the only source of lumber core plywood available. Does any one out there in cyber space know of a source within 50 or 60 miles of Sandusky Ohio. I need enough for 6 pieces 14″ x 21″ I did find one small piece at a local cabinet shop that they have had for several years which came from DSI who no longer carries it.

You might want to try Aetna Plywood http://www.aetnaplywood.com/ . Here by me in the midwest they are a strong supplier of lumber core with outer veneers in various species.
Thanks, just checked out their web page and they are wholesale only, will call tomorrow and see if they have lumber core and if so will have a local lumber co. order for me if they will sell one sheet.
Sorry, forgot about that. I order from my local yard here. I do believe you can get a single sheet, but you will also have to pay for the culls the piece is shipped in.
Have you tried Toledo Plywood?

Toledo plywood has the aspen-pine lumber core and I must have birch or maple on both sides. Thanks for the input. Need to match a piece made in 1890 or there abouts.
Maybe Toledo Plywood can order it...? Ask for Diane...I used to talk to her when ordering laminate.
There's a place in Toledo (Maumee or Perrysburg?) called Cleveland Plywood, but I know nothing about them, if they're wholesale only or retail.
You might have to try in the Cleveland area if you're in Sandusky. Detroit would be a bit of a drive.
Have you ever been to Toledo Plywood? Quite a place. Check their web site for species, thicknesses and sheet sizes, especially their Shop Grade list. I've saved lots of $$$ there, and they know their products and are very helpful.
There's a place a couple doors south of Toledo Plywood on Westwood, called KenCraft, also with a web site. They have some ply, but I doubt what you're looking for. Good selection of hardwoods, though, and moldings. If they don't have it in stock and you see a pattern you like in their large selection, they can run it for you in pretty much any species.
Good luck!

This would be a bit further than 60 miles if they have it, but if you can't find anything closer try calling Pontiac Plywood.

In the past, they've had lumber core oak ply, and I'm pretty sure some cherry LC ply. Don't know what if any LC ply they might have at the moment but they sell to the general public as well as contractors if they have what you're after.
If you build it he will come.
Me again.
If you absolutely have to have birch or maple faces on lumber core, you could make your own by glueing up a stable wood like poplar and applying sheet veneer to both faces (plane or sand the core so that the finished thickness is 3/4" (or whatever).
Oakwood Veneer (online) has some maple 4' x 8' sheets for 2 bucks a square foot...this would entail a bit of $$ and extra work, but you'd have exactly what you need.
Looks like one sheet would be just right.

You ar right, that is an option but I was hoping to find the lumber core and save me a lot of time and $$$$$. Looks like that is what I will have to do.
Not really. Figure it this way: A sheet of .020 flat cut plain maple at Oak Veneer would be $62.00 (including shipping, no sales tax). (Less for .010). Let's say Toledo Plywood had maple in lumber core at the same price as the aspen/pine; that would be $50.00, including sales tax.
How much would you spend for gas to drive a pickup to Toledo and back? And the time involved?
Probably a wash at today's lower gas prices, and, if you're retired, time is no problem; plus, you'd "have to" make a trip to the sheet goods candy store!
The cost of poplar lumber for the core would make the price difference, and you'd have a few bucks in contact cement and glue, BUT, again, you'd have exactly what you've been after...made with YOUR hands.
Keep me posted!
