I have several mid century modern chairs that need to be repaired. The seats and seat backs are fairly simple curved plywood that are covered with padding and fabric. Due to the way they were fastened, years of use has damaged a number of them to the point where it will be easier to build a form and glue up a few new curved seats than try to repair what I have.
Does anyone know where I can source thick birch veneers so that I can make these pieces? I’ve chosen birch because of the strength of Baltic Birch Plywood. The thickness I would like would be in the 1 to 2 mm range (0.039″ to 0.079″). I’m thinking rotary cut because I would not be constrained to the width of flat cut sheets taken off the log. I’m also not looking for exhibition quality wood…like what certainlywood.com sells.

He’s looking for lesser quality than certainlywood. Ask me how I know 🙃
Probably because I said so?
The thickest veneer I've seen is really not that thick. Can you saw your own?
I wouldn't focus on birch, because of the strength. Pretty much anything you use will add the same amount of strength, which is negligible. Find something that looks nice. Baltic birch plywood is dense and strong because it has lots of high quality layers. Whatever the top layer is made of matters not at all -- it's just for show.
Don't abandon certainlywood. All big veneer sellers have a section of thicker veneers. Most have cherry around 2mm, but there are others.
I've bought from Wisewood, but never asked about thicker sheets.

I get my thick veneer (1mm) from B&B Rare Woods.
