Source for used sliding tablesaw, combo
I have read a number of posts about finding deals on used combination machines or sliding tablesaws. I have trouble finding availability on the web. How did you get to the opportunity to buy one at a good price?

Don't limit yourself to the web. I've seen them in local classifieds. You do get WoodShop News of course????
As far as the web goes do you look at all the forums? There's at least a couple of dozen on woodworking and most are geared toward the hobbyist. Networking and just asking around can yield surprising results and I mean cold calls to local cabinet shops as well. A lot of stuff is sitting in a corner, perhpaps someday they might sell it or use it.
Many dealers have websites and there's WoodQuip, Exfactory and more if you know where to look. Exfactory is a broker that list machines so unless you know everything about that unit and buying used it's best not to jump too quickly. The same applies to auctions. Unless you are prepared for anything that could go wrong, stick with a reputable dealer.
Recently I saw a Minimax SC-3 four foot slider, original owner, go for $1,300. Ten years ago it was a $3,500 saw with light use by a school, the original owner.

Here is one site you can go for used. It's a catch as catch can.

Dave,
Join a couple of the forums. I had a friend that started one for Felder. I lurked around for years, then found a posting for a used one (they come up every few weeks and they have classified sections too). I contacted the seller and he emailed me the details of the machine and a photo. I sent him a check for 10% down, then drove to the location a couple of states away to arrange the shipping first hand a month later. I got a very good deal.
Try Yahoo's clubs for MiniMax and Felder and go through the posts. Go to FelderUSA.com and they sometimes have machines used. Also, your larger metropolitan newspaper classifieds migh have one every few months.
If you have any questions, email me,
Rod
