I’m looking for a source of superb quilted maple veneer. One good candidate is www.joewoodworker.com. Does anyone have any experience with him, good or bad? I’ve searched this forum and Googled the Web. All I’ve found is stuff on his vacuum press.

I only have experience with Certainly Woods and Schurch Woodwork but have collected a number of sources:

I've bought many veneers, glues, etc from Joe. His veneers are fantastic and by far the best prices I've found for non-commercial sized lots. My experience is that the wood looks even better in person than on his website. He's also a heck of a good guy and excellent business man. The one (and only) time I got a damaged veneer (through no fault of his own, as the shipper appeared to have driven over it) Joe sent a replacement overnight at no cost. Quite honorable and above-board (no pun intended). I have no qualms about recommending him.
Hi Terence,
Thanks for your advice. I'm glad to hear that Joe Woodworker has such a satisfied customer. Especially interesting is your referring to him as an excellent businessman. I like dealing with people who feel they have a reputation to protect.
His business has grown substantially in size (I think he may even do it full time now), but I haven't noticed any drop off in service. And as I said, the veneers have been outstanding. Besides his site having a wealth of information he's always responded to my general questions on e-mail very promptly. And his recommendations ahve always been spot-on.
I just wanted to chime in and send my sincerest thanks to everyone who has recommended the JoeWoodworker.com and VeneerSupplies.com websites.
I've worked on the sites just about everyday for the last 4 years and I'm still finding room for improvement. I've been gradually adding new pages here and there and several folks have contributed articles and suggestions. It's been a blast and I have no intention of slowing down.
Last night, I sat down and entered "JoeWoodworker" into the search box on this forum. I was amazed by how many great people there are out there who have mentioned my site(s) in their replies. I had goosebumps reading some of the comments! The truth about our "service" is that I only treat our website visitors the same way I would want to be treated. Apparently, that method works well.
Because of the orders on the site, I decided to quit my day job (of 14 years) several months ago. This has allowed me to take phone calls, ship orders faster, and spend a little more time in my shop. And I consider myself blessed for being able to do so.
So again, a huge thank you to everyone.
Joe

Terence,
You were really on-target about JoeWoodworker.com. Just delivered were shipments of quilted maple, curly walnut, and quilted walnut (yes, there is such a thing). And they were all DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! Words fail to describe the quality of the grain, the fine figure throughout each piece, flatness, and every characteristic of fine veneer. I strongly recommend http://www.joewoodworker.com (aka http://www.veneersupplies.com) to anyone who would like to step up a notch in their veneer work. I have no affiliation except as a very satisfied customer!
Thanks again, JohnH
You can't go wrong with Joe. I bought my vacuum press from him and when I wired it wrong and burned up one of the components he put a replacement in the mail no questions asked. I buy adhesive and other supplies from him now as well.
