I’ve read about some quick drying wipe on varnish. Does anyone know of a manufacturer and where it can be purchased i. e. Home Depot?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
"Quick drying" is realitive to the temperature and humidity, IMHO. I like Min Wax's Wipe On Polyurethanes. Dries to the touch in less than an hour, again, dependent conditions. Others, like to make their own, drying times will vary according to conditions and proportions. If it dries too fast, it will look like hell. FWIW.

*Dano,The one draw back I have with Poly is also it's major selling point. Since it's such a hard finish, it's recommended to sand between each coat to ensure proper bonding. Varnish, though not as durable as poly, doesn't require sanding with each coat (only the first). On another subject, I have some old discussions that I would like to remove but don't know how. I don't see the delete discussion button with every discussion I've started.thanks,Steve
*Steve,Ah, I understand. I believe that Homestead Finishing has wipe on varnishes. I guess I misunderstood the question. FWIW, most of what I do will have a French polish finish, somei could say this would be a wipe on varnish.Any who, the reason that you can't delete a discussion is because of the other posts within it, it would be a form of "censorship". May I ask why you would like to delete a discussion? Feel free to use my personal e-mail if you want, that's why it is there.Dano
*I use marine spar varnish, not poly, and make my own wiping varnish by diluting with mineral sporits. Others use naphtha as the diluent and it makes it dry faster. It is cheaper and easier to make your own "wipe on". Don't know if this is the question either.
*I know of three oil-based varnishes that are formulated to dry quickly, but there may be more. Benjamin Moore makes one called "Benwood One Hour Clear Finish." Zinsser makes one called "Quick 15." Sherwin Williams also makes an alkyd-resin version, but the name escapes me.
*Just thought that I would remove some clutter once one of my discussions is dead. Though now that I think of it, I do read a lot of old discussions searching for information. I guess it's a good idea to keep them to increase the overall database of info.thanks for the info on Homestead - I'll look them up and give them a try.BTW - I'm going to tackle pore filling the mahogany serving table this weekend, with luck I'll be applying a stain and finish next week.About time - I stripped the piece last Oct and it's been sitting since.Steve
*Bill,Great info, now I have several options to check out. thanks,Steve
