I am sure this topic has been done before, but going through the archives had nothing. Used and tools are very common words on this site.
I know about e-Bay, but what other sources are there that have quite a few tools for sale. It is frustrating to look and look and only find tons of tools for sale in Oklahoma, Texas and California, but none in Virginia.

I am from California, and find it frustrating that it seems like all the good used equipment deals are on the East Coast, not here in California. I have been looking for a good used cabinet saw for 18 months now, and nothing has come up.
Take a look at http://www.craigslist.com. Sort of on-line classifieds, but a free service. Started in the Bay Area, but has spread to many other metropolitan areas.

I have a good used Delta Unisaw with Unifence and also Jetlock fence and several accessories for sale. I am in Lousiana and shipping brobably would be expensive. Reason for sale: I bought one of the new Saw stops. Reason for expensive new table saw: amputation of the end of one of my fingers.
Check out pawn shops for small power tools. We get a lot of bargins from pawn shops. Remember that their posted prices are only what they think you will pay for an item. Most in this area will knock 20-25% off, no questions asked. Check out bulletin boards at local woodworking stores. Currently one of our stores has listed on the board the following: Rockwell contractor saw $500.00, Delta contractor saw-$500.00, Delta 14" bandsaw $300.00, Unisaw $900.00. None of these prices are etched in stone either. Oh yeah, I'm am in the Raleigh area. Classified in newspaper regularly has power tools for sale at decent prices. Estate auctions are another source.
Are you looking for used hand/power tools or large stationary power tools?
If larger, go to Exfactory....but there are some caveats when dealing with them...I can fill you in if your interested...
Bioman,
Fill me in on exfactory, I have been contemplating buying from them for a while, but have been a bit leery about dropping a large sum of cash with someone I don't know.
Birdseyeman (my real name is Lee in case anyone is offended)
No offence, my name is Paul...

There is a lot of equipment here, and links to some auction sites.

Aside from the classifieds in your newspapers, your best bet is to get wired in to your local woodworking community.
There are woodworking clubs scattered all over the country, and I would bet there are at least one or two in VA. You can find contact info for such clubs through any of the woodworking stores (Rockler, Woodcraft) -- but I would also ask around at any hardware stores that sell wwing tools, and hardwood lumber yards.

I have seen a lot of good stuff go cheap at estate sales, estate auctions, even garage sales (if you are lucky and have a lot of time). I was at an auction a few months ago, where a gentleman was selling his entire wood shop- a huge pole barn full of power equipment and wood. There are some on-line web-sites that announce auctions in particular areas, so maybe check for your state.
The best deals are at estate sales. If you want to be aggressive, even check the obits and check out those in your neighborhood. A big or well maintained garage is a good sign. It took me almost a year to locate a decent small metal lathe. They were there, but always gone by the time I found out.As for pawn shops, keep in mind that many of those tools were stolen, especially if it is in the Spring or early Summer. That may be less the case in the Fall if a tradesperson has sold their tools for the season. If you don't believe me, go to breaktime and ask about good pawnshop deals. Be ready for a flamefest

this site usually has used tools and machinery from military bases across the country.
right now there's not much listed, but I have seen some nice stuff listed. Some is heavy duty, others the stuff the average woodworkers use. You have to pick up at the installation. If you're from Virginia, they should have something close by eventually.
You can even buy your own duece and a half to haul your lumber with, or the new tools you bought.
