I am building the (dome) scroll saw clock and have quite a bit of very good black line spalted oak. I have tried various finishes from shellac to linseed, poly, minwax, tung, etc. It seems that boiled linseed and minwax (natural) wood finish gives the scraps an almost orange (instant amber?) color. It is really quite nice along with the black lines but the color only seems to last a week or so. The linseed seems to have the edge over the minwax in brightness of color. My question is what topcoat should I use-and can I lock in that color before it darkens and fades away. Or should I go another route ? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you like to orange hue, you might try using orange shellac. It will impart a honey orange color to the lighter wood.
