Anyone else seen this? Found some spalted limbs on the property, I have never seen orange spalting. Maybe mold, but the wood is quite hard and still sound, I would not think mold could penetrate that deep and it does not transfer when wiped with a cloth.

I've seen pecan spalt and leave those orange streaks. I'm guessing you've got a very nice pecan vase there.
It's not Pecan. Maple limbs. But possibly the same fungi you saw in your Pecan...What is puzzling to me is the absence of zone lines, was that the case with your example?
Well the mystery is solved. In addition to this post, I emailed Seri Robinson at Oregon State U. She does research on spalting. She was kind enough to respond and here is the answer.
