I have been doing stenciling for years, I use a spar varnish because of the long tack time. When I finish a piece I have always used a dull spar varnish. Now I am no longer able to purchase this product. I cant use any of the newer poly products with the spar varnish. Does anyone have any suggestions???? I need the long tack time so that the powder that i use for stenciling will stick.

Try using gold size. It is a long oil varnish used for applying gold leaf and other types of metal leaf. Rolco is one brand that is fairly easy to find. If you google gold leaf you will find more than enough information. Also call a local art supply store in your area to see if they have any.

What were you using that you can no longer get?
I can't get the dull spar varnish, or any other dull varnish that isnt a poly. It is for the finally coat.
