I have an 8inch jointer from Grizzly and I need to get the knives sharpened. I figured if I could find a good price I would pick up a spare set so there wouldnt be a weeks worth of downtime waiting for them. I have a three knife cutterhead and Im looking for HSS (I am aware of the new cutterheads such as Byrd’s, but sadly I cant justify a cutterhead that costs as much as my jointer). I know that I can get them cheaper than grizzly’s $80 price, but I dont want to buy some cheap steel that will dull after 2bf. So I am curious to hear any opinions as to some online dealers (unless you know some dealers in the Twin Cities (MN) area) that have high quality HHS knives.
I did search the forums and found a online Wisc. dealer, but they are still close to $60 for 8″.

Grizzly should have a spares for you, or you might try Hartvilletool.com. Mention the Woodnet 15% discount, or type Woodnet 15% in the shipping comments to receive 15% off. The set I got for my 6" jointer were very competitively priced and were better grade steel than the originals.
Do you have the correct price of the Grizzly knives. About a year ago I paid about $40 + shipping.

I just recieved the 2006 catalog and on page 55 they have their jointer knives. My jointer is discontinued so it is not in the catalog but the HSS knives say $80. Now you got me second guessing myself, I must be looking at the wong thing. Thanks catching that.
JD, I'm looking at both the 2005 and 2006 catalogs now.I believe that one or the other catalogs is misprinted. Below is the listing side by side of each catalog.Email Grizzly to confirm these prices. They are so out of whack from one year to another they don't make sense.Your blades are triple the cost from last years catalog.

There's no reason you have to buy Grizzly knives for this machine. Just measure what you have and buy the same size. Charles G. G. Schmidt (http://www.cggschmidt.com/) is one supplier, but there are plenty to choose from.Pete

Ask who sharpens your blades for their price for a replacement set. That was my best price!
I bought a set of Amana knives for my Delta 37-380 through Amazon (actually Magnate Inc.) for $38 + ship. They work better than the originals did when new. I face jointed some hard maple and the results were great, you can barely see the mill marks. I've been told that some Grizzly jointers have 4 knife cutterheads, this would of course cost more $$$.
Before I read the last post I was looking on Amazon and saw the Amana and grabbed them. It's reassuring to here that they work well. Now I have to wait a few days... darn.
