The first thing I do with any magazine is remove the extraneous paper, i.e., tear out the subscription cards and order forms, and shake the magazine to dislodge FSIs (Free-Standing Inserts).
Fine Woodworking arrives in a mailing cover made of heavy paper, which gets pulled off recycled, too.
I just discovered that the inside of the mailing cover contains a “Special Feature for Subscribers Only”: A nicely illustrated Shop Tip.
Okay, how long has this been going on? What Shop Tips have I missed?

Nothing earthshattering. I think the last one involved making a marking knife out of a thrift-shop find -- a carbon steel paring knife. That might have been the first one, if not it was the 2nd.
I just wish, if they're going to go ahead and print an issue-specific Shop Tip on the back, they'd print the Issue # and month/year on the spine! Then I could leave the cover on and have that info staring at me from the magazine file.

Yeah but how do you get the cover off without tearing up the mag? At a minimum you loose some or all of the spline print.

Not if you're careful -- they use that miracle adhesive that stretches but doesn't tear the paper.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Mostly the miracle adhesive lifts the print. Some times I get torn paper.
This last issue the jacket and adhesive stayed on the mag.

I've been able to pull off the "booger glue" with out any problems and tearing. Do it slow and at a shallow angle and all should be fine.

Thanks; I always wondered what that type of adhesive was called.
