I’m looking for a raised panel router bit without a bottom-mounted ball bearing guide. The only one I can find is a Freud (#99-214) but that one is somewhat larger than I would like. Are there any others out there? I would like to raise a number of panels with a greater flat on the edge than the bottom-mounted ball bearing guide will allow. I may wind up using one of those bits with a top-mounted ball bearing guide and a pattern but I’m not as keen on the profiles they produce.

Chiptam,
Although I use a shaper for nearly all my panels, I once needed small ones with a large flat and found a router bit with the bearing in the way.
I removed it and ground the center of the bit down below the level of the carbide with a side grinder.
It worked great.

Clampman,
Thanks for your reply. I was considering doing exactly what you suggested. I had purchased a small panel raiser with a bottom-mounted bearing for another project some time ago and was thinking of altering it for this project. However, after checking my usual sources for router bits and then looking through a dozen other catalogs, I finally found exactly what I was looking for.....at Sear's (who would have thunk it). They had two small panel raisers without bottom bearings. I picked out one and I think it's going to work fine.
