Seems like I should know this, but what’s the safe speed range for running those little sanding drums on a drill press? I dug out my kit the other day, but didn’t find any info with it about speed (my drill press has 3 speeds, wheeeee!)

f_g,
As a rule those things are not very round and tend to vibrate the heck out of the drill press. I run mine at 250 RPM and that seems safe enough to me. They don't have to turn very fast to do the job. Just run them at your lowest speed and you'll be fine.

I agree with Steve - running at a slower speed should also reduce the tendancy to burn.
