I am looking for current requirements for spindle spacing. Specifically, for baby craddles and cribs. If an anyone knows of a web site or publication where I can reference the requirements I sure would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Dan,
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 2-3/8" is the maximum clear space between spindles. Check out http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5030.html for more info.

Perfect, thanks for the web-site.

Just one note, my sister heard her daughter in the other room wimpering. She ignored it for a little bit, but thought to check in on her even though nothing would be wrong. When she entered her daughters room, she found her daughter danging by the scruff of her neck as the finial on the vertical post of her crib caught right on the neck line of her pajamas. When designing anything, especially with kids, you really have to think of all the wierd possibilities that kids can find themselves in.
Somethings you never think about!! As a matter of fact, the web site (US Consumer Product Safety Commission) that Froed (above) provided not only states minimuim spindle spacing but also mentions that "No corner posts over 1/16th of an inch high so a baby's clothing cannot catch." I have too say that these discussion forums are quicking becoming a valuable "shop" tool. Thanks all.
