AWHILE BACK I READ AN ARTICLE ON HOW TO LAY OUT A TWO SPIRAL CANDLE HOLDER. THE SPEC. INVOLVED LAYOUT ON A CYLINDER IN TWO DIRECTIONS. THIS CREATED SPOTS TO DRILL HALFWAY INTO THE CYLINDER. THE FINISH TOUCH INVOLVED SOME CARVING AND SANDING OF THE SPIRALS. OK, SOUND LIKE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. WRONG! HELP!? I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE THE ARTICLE IN MY ARCHIVE ISSUES. I MUST HAVE LOST THAT ISSUE OR THE ARTICLE COPY. CAN ANYONE DIRECT ME TO THE ARTICLE OR THE TECHNIQUE. I HAVE ALREADY ORDERED TWO BACK ISSUE AND THEY WERE NOT THE CORRECT ONES. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT OTHER THAN TURNING THE CYLINDER MOST OF THIS IS CARVING AND SANDING. PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU GIVE

I think the article you are looking for is in the master class section, toward the back of the magazine, of the most recent issue of Fine Woodworking or maybe the issue just before the most recent. I don't have the magazine here to check, if you can't find it let me know and I'll track it down in the morning.

The article you are looking for was published in issue #189. Barley-Twist Candlesticks by Ernie Conover. Don't buy the back issue because your subscription to this Web site gives you access to most back issue articles as downloadable PDF files. Click the link below to download the article:

Even better news, Ernie Conover is an expert in this forum so you can ask Ernie follow up questions by posting a question in his folder.
Have fun with it,
