HI fellow woodworkers,
I want to make a sofa table with splayed curved legs.
I know I need to shape the legs with a shaper or table mounted router and the help of a template, but would love to read about the procedure first.
Can anybody advise or recommend any literature?

Strongest method would be to laminate veneer into leg blanks. Rough cut 1/16" oversize on bandsaw. Make a perfect template out of tempered hardboard 1/4" thick or baltic birsh ply. Apply template with double stick tape and remove waste on router table with a flush trim bit. Some router bits have the bearing above the cutter and some at the end of the bit. Either will work. If the workpiece is thicker than the length of the router bit, you can remove the template and use the first cut surface for the router bit to reference off to cut any remaining material.
Thank you,
Understand and will do.

Depending on the type of joint used to connect the leg, you might have to do some machine work, like mortising, before shaping the leg.
I use 2 sided 1/4" melamine for all my patterns, it's thin enough to shape easily and the melamine on both sides help the edges hold up to the shaper rub collar. Baltic birch works well for patterns also. Rough cut your leg out leaving an 1/8 -1/16" over, makes it a lot easier on the shaper.
Thank you, I appreciate your time and advice
