About a year ago I planed some oak down to about 3/8″ and bonded it to my ugly pine stair treads to make ‘oak’ treads. All was well until about a week ago when I noticed that one of the larger ‘treads’ (at the corner landing) split and create about a 1/8-1/4″ gap in one of the boards I used to make the tread.
Can anyone provide some advice on how I can fill in these gaps? I don’t want to use wood filler because the color will never match.
thanks in advance.

My guess is the two woods are expanding/contracting at different rates. You may find more of it to occur.
If that WEREN'T the case and things were stable, I'd cut a long wedge of the oak, put in a little glue and lightly tap it into the gap. Once dry, plane it down.
