just finished staining a piece, temp in the 40’s, apply stain lets sit 5 min. wipe off excess. next morning look a piece and it appears that the stain has drops in it little black spots bigger than a pin head try to rub out and the spots are sticky, minwax provencial stain any comment would help this happened with red oak stain as well temp in the 80’s

What happened was that the stain "bled" out of the pores of the oak. Initially, the solution would have been to check frequently and wipe off any of the little spots. (This is the same as with any oil or oil/varnish finish, except with pigment added.) You can rub these out with steel wool lubricated with more of the minwax. It may darken a bit with a "second" application. If thats a bad thing, then use clear minwax. If you are living right, the new minwax will cut the old, but not remove the thinner coat that is better cured.
