I am planning an 8 x 10 spray booth room addition to my woodshop to spray clear wood finishes, including shellac and lacquer. After reading Andy Charron’s “Spray Finishing” and calling all local sources I can think of, the only exhaust fan I have found so far is over $700, and nobody seems to know how big a fan I need, or how many cfm I need to move to effectively vent the room while spraying. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rand Hall

Rand ,
You really dont need a huge fan for that size room . I am sure you can find one for less than $700 . Try some local body shops, look for government auctions or school auctions . My pal got one from some catalog company , I think it was J.C. Whitney co ,I think that is the name. Check it out .
good luck Dusty
Thank you for your quick reply. $700 seems high to me, too. I'll check into the sources you suggested. Rand
Other resources:
search function here, local fire inspector for info on what's required, spray shops in your area (where do I get X locally?) and explosion proof fans can be had, among other places, at Graingers. http://www.grainger.com

Granger has a catalogue that will give you all the specs you need to plan out and efficiently exhaust your spray booth.
Graingers (sp) is the name I was trying to remember. Thanks to all for the correct source .
