Spray gun with existing compressor?
I am looking for an entry level spray gun and I was hoping to use the compressor that came with my Porter Cable finish and brad nailers. The compressor is “2hp” with a 6 gal tank. It is rated at 3.7 scfm @ 40psi and 2.6 scfm at 90psi. Are there any guns out there that will work with such a small compressor?
Thanks, Chris

For very small jobs, yes. For larger jobs and continuous spraying, not really. Whatever you use as a compressor, get a really good air dryer. Moisture kills good finishing techniques. There are some inexpensive guns out there that actually do a good job and the air requirements are printed in the spec sheet or on the box. Some conversion guns work at <30psi and while your compressor doesn't have a big capacity, for smaller jobs, it'll work and you won't have the amount of overspray as a regular gun.
Thanks for the tip on the dryer. Are there any specific guns you like for smaller jobs and a compressor like mine?
I bought a conversion gun at Harbor Freight, just to see if it's any good. Ended up shooting my kitchen cabinets with it, spraying Verathane poly, satin finish. They have a big sale going on now and IIRC, it's about $50. I went back another time and bought a regular (non HVLP) touchup gun for $14. You can spend more, but if you're not spraying a lot, the cheap gun worked fine for me with this particular material. I'll see how it is with lacquer and others soon since a friend of mine just bought a boat that will probably need some paint. I suspect it will be fine, though.
