Hello all,
My Dad’s birthday is soon and he has a compressor. I was thinking about buying him a paint gun for shooting laquer. What kind to buy? Is a cheaper gun good enough for a hobbyist. I have only sprayed industrial paints on beams and such so I really don’t have a clue. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tony , A cheaper less expensive spray gun will be adequate . Ask the seller if the gun is rated to spray lacquer . I think paint requires a better gun than does lacquer . I would imagine for $40.00 give or take you can find a gun to work just fine for hobbyist uses . Your Dad is lucky to have a son as thoughtful as you. good luck dusty
When I first got into spraying I got a used Campbell hausefield set ( a 2 qt. and touch-up gun) used from a friend. It came in a plastic case. I think he got it at one of the big box stores and I know he didn't pay much for it. but anyway, It did work just fine spraying thinned material(like lacquer) I even sprayed a Jeep With it . I got alot of good use out of it and the touch up gun was good for small projects.
