Have some light hallway furniture to build using 1×12- Am wondering, how does spruce compare with pine for strength, splintering, hardness, stain blotchiness, grain, overall appearance and “usability” (that’s a good word!)? Thanks for any thoughts-

Well----Howard Hughes built a really big airplane out of it.
Not quite. It had a lot more birch plywood than spruce in it. The nickname was because aircraft with wooden wings use spruce for the wing spars and ribs if they are built up from solid. Since the nickname was to mock the Hercules and Hughes. He didn't like it to much. Go figure.
OOPS--THX
