Made and installed my first square pegs last night. The fit was so tight, there’s no room for glue, and I didn’t use any. Now this morning I’m wondering should I be using glue? Or are square pegs just suppose to be a friction joint?

Stubert,
Over time, seasonal changes or additional drying may cause the wood to shrink, and your peg will be loose. I suggest you create a couple of short, thin slots below the surface of the peg, which will give the glue a place to go and provide a long-term solution.

If these pegs are securing an M&T joint and fit well a little glue would only be insurance. If the M&T was draw bored then the glue would be a waste of time. If these are really square plugs concealing screws I wouldn't glue them so that the screws could be tightened down the road sometime.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking
