Do a web search for "cut nails". I also added -concrete to exclude the hardened cut nails used to attach framing to concrete. Got 2600 hits. The first reference on the list was Van Dyke's.
BTW, why are all the spaces in your message replaced with underscores? It makes the whole thing display on one line in my browser, in a very wide window that I had to scroll to read.

Try Treemont Nail co.
I ordered from them last year, nice quality product. Shipping was a bit pricy.

Thanks_everyone.Anyone_know_if_predrilling_is-advisable_for_these?Using_pine_that_is.Since_the_end_is_flat_there_would_probably_be_less_of_a_tendency_to_split.Right?
Roly,
This is ridiculous. Please get your keyboard replaced. It's impossible to read your messages because they just go off the screen into oblivion. They don't scroll here. Keyboards are cheap. Please don't subject others to your broken equipment.

I recently made a project with the old cut nails. I actually forged the nails. It took two hours to make a dozen nails, but it was great fun.
I predrilled the pine I drove them into. I am not certain if this is necessary. Square nails are supposedly less prone to split. You'll need to experiment on some scrap.

Horton Brasses also sells square cut nails. They don't have the minimum purchase requirements and as pricey shipping as does Tremont.
Frank,
Cut nails definitely reduce the chances of splitting the wood--to nearly zero. I start them with the flat across the grain. That way the nail actually cuts the grain rather than just shoving it aside.
Interesting note: I'm not sure why this happens but when driving square cut nails into soft wood the nail will often turn as I drive it so the long dimension ends up along the grain. That actually makes it much easier to conceal the nail. Sometimes just driving the head a bit below the surface will hide it pretty well.

Rich.Sorry but it's not my fault.Blame it on Chip.
Sorry.
i dont have the scroll off the screen problem.
My screen is only 2 inches wide. That's 2.54 cm, metric.
Rich
huh? 2 inches wide? what type of computer you got dude? Maybe you want to invest in a new monitor (just messing with you :) ).
If life gives you lemons, squirt them in someone else's face so they feel bad too. --Matt Mulka
