My daughter saw a Squirrel Picnic Table (Feeder) in the internet and asked me to make one for her. I chose some white oak from a log that fell from the top of the tree about four years ago in a storm. There is some sap wood showing, because I didn’t have enought to make it entirely out of heart wood. I did not use glue, because it will be exposed to weather. I used pegged lap joints for the bench seats and leg support pieces. I pre-drilled and connected the legs to the support pieces with screws. I connected the top to battens that were then connected to the legs by predrilling and fastening with screws. All exposed fasteners are under the table top in hopes that less moisture will get to them. The question is how long will it last in weather with freeze-thaw cycles and will the sap wood last?

If it's not in contact with the ground it should last several years. Nice job.

Thanks, WILCO, Hill169.
Post a photo when the squirrels show up for dinner!
I'll ask my daughter to send me a picture. It might take a while. I live in Arkansas, and she lives in Maine. She just moved to a new house. I wish I could just beam over there and install it somewhere for her and see my grandson, too.
