St. James Bay tool company plane casting
Hello,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a past discussion of completing a plane casting from the St. James Bay tool company. How difficult is it if you have experience with machine lathes & mills and access to a shop? The price of a casting sure beats the cost of a finished plane.
thanks,

There was a 3 part series of articles in Home Shop Machinist magazine written by Stephen Thomas about buying the rough castings from St. James Bay and putting it together. The articles were written in 1999 in the Jul-Aug, Sept-Oct, and Nov-Dec issues. Maybe you could purchase these back issues from them.

10,
I would think that if you are familiar with milling machines, lathes and have access to a mmachine shop it will be a breeze for you to come up with something good:planes are not that complicated.Get the basic kit and go for it.

Go to the hand tool forum on http://www.woodcentral.com Lots of very active discussion on making kit planes. More than I've seen here by far.
