Can someone tell me how they “stabilize” wood such as pen blanks? I think I can submerge the pieces and apply vacuum in a jar, but what should I use for the stabilizing agent? Seems like the pieces I have seen use acrylic…

You might try Pentacryl. Works wonders on large cross cut sections of trees.
Thanks for the suggestion, I have use pentacryl to soak wooden blanks such as olive to prevent cracking. I think the "polycryl" product may be more appropriate for hardening these punky spalted pieces. Someone else suggested I use polyurethane mixed half and half with solvent.... Any other ideas out there?
