Received an email query this afternoon for a stackable wooden chair with a flat back. Has anyone ever seen plans for such a design? Thanks in advance.

An interesting problem
I don't have a source for plans, but it is an interesting problem. Looking at a few examples I notice that the seat rails and seat are inset from the rear legs so that the rear legs of a chair stacked over clears the seat below and nestles with back legs against back legs and front to front..
I would suggest you go and look at some of the commercial, I'm searching for the word, contract furniture for schools, churches and offices. I flipped open an old catalog and found one example; the "Groton Stacking Chair" from Adden Furniture in Lowell, Mass. It's an armed chair with a runner at the bottom. The Buckstaff Company in Oskosh, WI makes a wooden stacker, Model 6701. Who knows if these companies still exist but I'm sure you can find others.
So take a look and see how you have to adjust the chairs you already make to allow them to stack. People have been amazingly clever for a long time and we get to borrow and build on what they have done.
