Can anyone recommend a brand and color to match this oak door? I bought and used “golden oak”, brand x and this built in definitely does NOT match the door or even the store sample.

I no longer use stains since you are pretty much stuck with what the stores carry and I am reluctant to buy on the net (unless I have no choice).
For color matching, I recommend water-based dyes instead of stain. You use the same wood as your project sanded to the same grit and vary the dye strength until you are happy with the color match. I use Lockwood dyes because my local hardwood dealer had a selection. I have used them several times and will now order from Lockwood if my stroe does not have what I want.
I mix them to full strength to begin with and you can cut down the strength by adding water until you get what you want.
You can use any finish you want over them - oil-based or water-based. Check out the web for information on dyes vs. stains.
Lockwood on the net has color samples, but they are just a guide since not all computer colors are real.

I have no financial interest in Lockwood.
