I’m planning to finish a piece I’m building using Aquacote waterbourn lacquer. Does anyone out there know if there are any particular stain types that work well or for that matter should be avoided when using this type of finish.

If you use a water-base dye or stain, the solvents in the water-base finish can cause the dye or stain to "bleed" into the finish - especially if you use a wipe-on or brushing application. If you're spraying the finish, apply 3 very light coats, one right after the other (as soon as the previous coat dries), to seal the stain before spraying a wet coat. If you're wiping/brushing - use a coat of dewaxed shellac over the stain - before the water-base finish.
If you use an oil-base stain, make sure it's completely dry before applying the water-base finish so it will adhere well.
I haven't heard of the Aquacote; who makes it?
