I am in the process of builing an ash kitchen table. My wife would prefer that it match the other wood furniture, which is yellow-tan. I am not having any luck with the pigmented stains available, they just don’t seem to get me close to what I want.
Should I be trying dyes to get a better match? And, when I fill the pores, will dyes react the same way that the pigmented stains will?

Its better to use a dye to match the background color (the color between the pores), then seal the wood. Then you can color the pores with a pigmented stain (gels are easy to use) so that it matches your sample. The sealer prevents the stain from coloring the flat grain. Gimme a holler if you need any more help.
