I would like to put a dark oak or walnut stain on an outdoor cypress gate. What would be the best way to minimize the lightness of the sapwood and the figure in the grain?
Thanks, Robin

I was going to suggest gel stains, but then I noticed this is an outdoor project.
Cabot has a collection of exterior stain products that would be a good choice. You might want to look through their web site:

You probably won't find the Cabot brand in home centers, but some paint store in your area is likely to carry them.

I think I saw an ad-board for Cabot at Lowe's or Home Depot yesterday. Probably Lowe's. Miracles never cease, eh?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Just for the heck of it, I looked back at the Cabot site, and sure enough,Lowes is selling the Cabot line in their stores in the NW -- but still not around here.********************************************************
