I am making a cabinet to hold my collection of Finewoodworking mags. I’m using teak plywood with solid walnut where needed. What and how is the best method to match the color of the teak to match walnut with BLO finish?
Thanks, James

I would suggest you used some dyes either water or NGR's to bring the two colors together prior to doing the oil.
If you have no experience making your own dye from powders, try some dye concentrates such as Trans Tints available from Woodworkers Supply or Homestead Finishing. They are in liquid form and you can add it to water or alcohol to whatever strength you'd like.
It will take some experimenting. See if they have a color chart online to help you pick some out.
Also consider calling Homestead and ask for a few suggestions on colors.

Thanks Peter, I'll try the transtint wth alcahol first. Isn't Teak "oily"?
James
Teak is oily but with plywood the veneer is quite thin.
If you want to err on the side of caution, give it a wash with acetone first and quickly wipe it dry.
You can also warm your dye solution if you want. You can also use alcohol and water in varying proportions. Alcohol alone dries extremely quickly and can lead to streaking.
