I have been using a small bench top planer and find it insufficient for planeing rough lumber. I want to upgrade to a larger more stable machine. Does anyone know of a shop comparison article that might help me in making a selection? I would like to limit the cost to $1200 to $1500. I have considered the Delta 22-780x. Anyone with working knowledge of this machine? The customer reviews I have read range from excellent to poor? I will appreciate replies from users of machines in this price range. I am limited to single phase in my shop. I do not do production work. Woodworking is a hobby for me.
Thank you, Paul

I haven't used the planer you mentioned. Grizzly has several planers in your price line. I do not have the Grizzly planer but they get good reviews. I do have other Grizzly tools and I am well satisfied with the tools and the customer service.
Try a search for planer reviews other than the delta you have already reviewed. In your price range you can get a quality machine, even adding the disposablade system to a standard 15" 3hp planer is about $1100.00without shipping costs.

Thank you Mike. I am looking at the Grizzly(s) with interest. Thank you for your response!

I have an eight or nine-year old Delta 15" planer. It has served me very well. There really isn't anything that it can't handle. Knife changing has never been difficult with the provided knife setting jig. My only complaint is that I do experience snipe at times. I'm sure if I invested some time in building longer infeed and outfeed tables, that would help (I'm currently using the flip-up tables that came with the planer). 15" planers are serious machines. Mine operates on 220v.
Thank you for your response!
