Hello:
I have a Stanley #12 1/2 scraper that had no blade. I recently purchased a Hock blade for it.
Are these planes used with the blade as is (ie 45 degrees) or should a burr be honed on the leading/forward edge?
It is my assumption that a burr is required as the blade is only adjustable from vertical to a forward leaning angle, but I am not sure. I know the shavings eject from in front of the blade.
A little lesson please! I have a workbench top to scrape.

For me, Ralph Brendler's site is the most comprehensive for both hand and plane-based scrapers:

I use my #112 (same blade as #12 and #12 1/2) with a LN (Stanley Replacement) blade - no burr.
