I inherited a Stanley #2 plane from my dad. I love it because it’s a perfect size between my block plane and my fore.
A family friend visited this past weekend and said these planes are very collectible, he stole one for $150, and I might get as much as $300 for mine. I wouldn’t sell it because then I wouldn’t have that perfect “tweeny” sized plane to use but – is this guy’s info accurate?

Yes, a #2 in excellent condition could easily fetch $300 on Ebay, if the right people see it. Run-of-the-mill #2's will go anywhere from $150 to $250.

You've got a jewel. Hang on to it. Yes, depending on condition, $150 could be on the low side.
I "stole" one at an auction for $150. Two others went for $250 to $300. Their condition and accuracy were similar. New buyers had come in between the time I got mine and the other two were sold.
At the same auction, a #1 went for about $2,000.00

I got a #7 jointer from my dad. Turns out it is a type 2, prelateral #7 with a patent date of 1867. Yup, 136 years old. It is highly collectible, and I have no idea what it would go for. It has his initials engraved in the side and it's my daily go-to plane. Would I sell it? Not in my lifetime. I also wouldn't put it on a shelf to look at, either. He used it all the time and so do I.
