Stanley 4 1/2 Depth adjustment direction
I just picked up a vintage Stanley 4 1/2 and was struck that the iron advances by turning the depth adjuster counter-clockwise and retracts clockwise.
Is this orientation unique to this model? Every hand plane I’ve ever owned advances/retracts clockwise/counterclockwise.

My knee jerk reaction is that someone swapped the frog from a Stanley-like plane when doing the restoral. Can one of you Stanley geeks clear this up for the OP?
That would be my guess as well.
Interesting. I wonder which plane manufacturers produced frogs with this “reversed” orientation.
I've lost track of the various manufacturers. Many were made by Stanley for other brands. But a bunch of companies all made planes.
I'm not a true geek, but I just pulled down a half-dozen 'Stans including my 4.5. ALL of the screw threads run in the same direction on the bevel-down bench planes. The only "reverse" thread is on the No 62 bevel-up, but since there is no reversal via the fork it still advances like the others.
I have 2 (blue) Record bench planes in my collection and (no surprise) they are the same as the Stanleys.
Sergeant is one company that used a counter clockwise advance if I recall correctly.
That is the case with my Sargent #7 smoother.
Just looked at my numbers 3, 4, 5, 606 and 7, and they are all the same.
Methinks you have a non-Stanley frog.
