Was wondering if anybody had tried a the Stanley #51 & 52 plane and shooting board. Looked like a neat tool.

Where did you find one?
I should of claified that I do't have one (although I keep hopeing I see one at a garage sale for 29.95) I did just see one on e-bay that sold for 1000.00, way out of my price range. Thanks
I would suspect a collector as opposed to a woodworker. Considering one could equal the work of that unit with a really good LN plane and a couple of shooting boards for so much less the price does not make sense, otherwise. I was not aware that there was such a hot market out there that some one would spend that kind of money just to collect it.
dherzig,
Antique tool collecting is huge. Below is a link where a plow plane sold for over $114,000.

Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I'll remember, but let me try and I will understand.
I've been using one for years. The best thing since sliced bread. The plane itself is the best shooting plane I have ever used with a handle at 45 degrees. The chute board is dead-on accurate and for normal width boards a joy to use. I've also used it on miters and it works a treat provided the stock is symmetric so that you can turn the wood upsidedown for shooting left and right miters.
For longer and wider stock I use a wooden shooting board with the 51 plane.
Troy, are you serious, all of Knots will hate you if you are "pulling our chain" .Perhaps it's just a little gloating. It'a rare tool to find and rarer to find both in good condition. Needless to say also a lot of bucks so now fess up and let us know. Wishfull thinking or do you have them? Pat
