I just bought an old set of stanley #750 chisels. I have never owned a socket type chisel before. The handles came from the previous owner loose. Were these handles meant to be wedged into the socket or were they originally glued, and came loose over time?
How do I restore them to original condition?

If they are ####bit loose, then take a piece of t-shirt cloth, cotton I suppose, and wet it with BLO, wrap it around the cone portion of the handle one time, drive it home by tapping the handle on a firm, hard surface with the blade up, and let it dry for a day or 2. This has worked well for me with loose handled socket chisels. RArely do they again come loose. Enjoy the 750's. I have a mismatched set, and find that the steel is of uneven quality, but the 1/2" is as good as it gets. The 3/8" is way soft. Run of the mill, I guess.

I hope BLO isn't short for blood. What is BLO?
Boiled Linseed Oil.
