I’ve just started to use a Stanley #78 that bought awhile back. The box has a 2017 date. The iron does not hold an edge very well. Unfortunately, neither Hock nor Lee Valley make a replacement blade. Is it known what the steel composition of Stanley irons is now and what it has been over the years? I’d buy an older iron if I was confident that it would be better than what I’ve got.
