Awesome genecoder. I started seriously working with wood when I was 12. You sound like you know what your doing with wood if you're already making log furniture. Do you have any pics of work? I'm sure there will be a lot of us in awe.
Welcome aboard and invite your freinds. I'm tired of being the youngest guy here. : )

Here are some of the pictures I hope they go through.
coder,
Im assuming that you are trying to attach files per the button at the bottom. It's a 3 step process for each file/pic, i.e. Browse, Upload then Done when you have Uploaded all the files/pics. Also, when Uploading (Step 2) wait for the progress bar at the bottom of the dialogue box to complete and the file appears up near the top.
Oh yes, and a hearty welcome to Knots!

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
I hope I got the Pictures this time.
Before somebody hollers at ya, here's a smaller file.

Excellent work genecoder! I see you've mastered the mortise and tenon joint on the front and back of the chair. Do you use a special tool or do you turn the piece on the late to form the tenon?
I have a special tool called Tenon cutter made by Vertas. But i do have a lathe which i love to practice on.
I'll try one more to do the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Get yourself a copy of Irfanview -- a free graphics program -- on the web. Resize your pics to about 25% of their current size. Them hewmongous files are gonna pizz of some of the dial-uppers around here.

I live in Montana the middle of no where. Me too and I live near Chicago Illinois..
Have fun and be safe in your work.. ALL will help you in here!
G,
Perhaps the natural next step from the log-based stuff toward fine furniture might be via one or more of the green woodworking traditions? The tools are simple ones; and you may have some already - carving axe, froe, spokeshave etc.. The processes are also "primitive" but can produce quite refined articles.
Maybe a ladderback chair? Maybe some bowl carving?
You must tell us what styles of furniture you yearn to make....?
