I discovered some patches of uneven color today in a cherry table top that I have been brushing with 2lb cuts of blonde shellac (not dewaxed). The cherry was originally sanded to 220 grit and coated with a 1lb cut of shellac, and then coated with a gel stain, and subsequently 3 coats of blonde shellac. I have lightly sanded between coats with 320 grit and 0000 steel wool.
How can I get these lighter patches to blend with the darker gel stain with all these coats of shellac on the top?
Thanks,
Brian

You might try what is referred to as a "glaze" - a very thick paste which is applied over a sealing finish and wiped off to produce the look you are after.
Or
A "toner" is also used as a aerosol delicatley applied to selected areas to blend in a new color. Both need 'cover coats' of protection.
