I am putting together my tools for my workshop. I have a 3 1/4 porter cable router for my table. I am 55 and desire to get into cabinet making. I want to make my own cabinet doors. Can anyone suggest router bits to start with for raised panels, rail and style.
Also , I live in Arkansas, would love to work with a cabinet maker who is willing to share his or her knowledge. I would love to get into this full time. Any suggestions on how to take the plunge. Thanks for any and all advice you can give.

Router bit manufacturers typically offer door making sets that include matching rail, stile, and panel raising bits. What particular set is up to you according to your personal preference. CMT, Freud, and Whiteside are all good manufacturers. However, expect to pay around $200 or more for a set. An alternative is to get just the rail and stile bits and raise the panel on your table saw or go with a lower-cost Asian import like the ones offered by Woodline USA. Either will save you about $100 or so.

Thanks for the information, I have done a lot of framing and building of homes, but never the cabinets. At my age, I think this is something I could handle and would really enjoy. Just wish I could find someone here in Central Arkansas who needs help. I will look at the rail and stile bits. Thanks for the good idea. Best regards
I also am getting into more & more cabinet making as part of my living & making good money at it to boot. As for making doors & for that matter drawer fronts & boxes, I order them from http://www.walzcraft.com . Many cabinet makers order out these parts as it is more cost effective, also much less shop room & equipment is needed.
If you want to still want to make your own parts you can buy bit sets & the like, Just less profit in it.
Good luck & Happy New Year
