I don’t understand what people are talking about concerning starving a glue joint. I work for a millwork company and we use glue by the thousands of gallons. We estimate that a PVA glue line is .001″-.002″ on clamped fabrications. Seems all you need to do is ensure that glue wets both surfaces and that’s about it. What’s the big deal?

According to one of the techs at Franklin (titebond) who I spoke with years ago, he said that starving the joint by putting too much clamping pressure was impossible with PVA glue- but- a very real concern when using epoxy. In that case, overtightening the clamps (on a but joint) could actually squeeze out enough glue to make the joint fail.
