I need a referral to a source for stave door construction. I am planning to build 9′ sliding closet doors of maple with glass panel inserts.
I have been collecting and reading as much information as I can get, when a recent mention was made of the above construction technique. I googled it as suggested but came up with mainly commercial sites and not a discussion of what and how. Any help appreciated. Novice woodworker here. Thanks.

gatvol,
I've attached a PDF document of a typical stave core construction, with nominal dimensions, of a door rail or stile. The staves and the edge bands are oriented so that the tangential wood growth is in the direction from the front to the back of the door ("quarter sawn"), so that major wood expansion causes the door to change mostly in thickness, not in width.
Stave core construction can be daunting! And it requires quite a bit of equipment, especially clamps! If you are trying to do this yourself, mill the staves and edge bands carefully, slightly over size in the door's front to back dimension. Clamp them together dry, using battens to keep them perfectly aligned and drill dowel holes along their length for alignment during glue up. Then glue, using the dowels and battens for alignment. Scrape excess glue from the glue lines while it's still soft. Trim the dowels flush. Run the finished assembly through the jointer and thickness planer. Then glue on the face veneers.
Good luck!
