have a big end that fits 4″ dust collection pipes. The cup then tapers to an octagon. You can cut the taper to what you desire and use a heat gun or hair dryer to shape the octagon to a circle.
This cup is thick and tough.

Don,
I am missing something. Are you responding to another post? Why would I want to do this with such a cup?
Alan - planesaw
The cup is basically free and can be used in a dust collection system as a reducer from 4" collection pipe to a smaller size due to the taper. I'm not responding to any posts. I just thought I'd pass on this free info.
Don, I think it's intriguing, but we don't have any Steak and Shake restaurants out here!!
I love to find second uses for some of the things we use in this landfill-happy, throwaway culture of ours.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to Steak and Shake for lunch today just so I can try it. You may want to submit your tip to FWW or any other mag to win some cash. If you don't, someone else will and you'll be seeing your idea getting someone else a free Veritas plane

Hi Don, Thanks for the Tip!! I was getting a horrible whistling sound out if my 3" hose from my band saw to my 5" hose from my dust collector. I ended up using your tip and and whistling stopped. I owe you one!
Mike,
Are you sure you just didn't close the shades so's the girls outside couldn't see you? :-)

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Takhomasak! Frisco melt, chocolate malt, extra scoop of malt powder...
...to go...
Nice example of "adaptive re-use" for those cups!
